What is a passkey?
A passkey is a secure login credential stored on your device. You’ll use your fingerprint, Face ID, or device PIN to log in — instead of a password.¹
Why should I use a passkey instead of a password?
Stronger protection: Passkeys help prevent phishing and credential theft by using secure device-based authentication.
Fewer hassles: No more forgotten passwords or reset steps when changing devices.
Smoother sign-in: Passkeys are saved to your device’s secure cloud keychain (like iCloud or Google), and may sync across devices automatically for easier access.
How do I set up a passkey?
When passkeys are enabled for your account, you’ll be prompted to set one up the next time you log in using the HealthEquity Mobile app, EZ Receipts app, or both — depending on your benefits.²
You must register with EZ Receipts online before using the EZ Receipts app.³
Passkey setup is quick, secure, and required to access your account once prompted.
Download the mobile app
Download the HealthEquity Mobile or EZ Receipts app² (or both, depending on your plan) to get started.
Enter Your Username and Password
This runs secure background checks to verify your account.
Verify Your Identity
Select a verification method (text or voice call) to receive a one-time passcode, then enter the code to confirm your identity.Create Your Passkey
Your device will prompt you to create a passkey using built-in security like Face ID, fingerprint, or device PIN.¹You’re In!
Once set up, your passkey will be saved to your device for future logins — fast, secure, and password-free.
Which devices and browsers support passkeys?
Most modern smartphones, tablets, and computers support passkeys. Your device must have screen lock or biometric authentication enabled.
Mobile: iOS 16+ (Safari), Android 10+ (Chrome)
Desktop: Windows 10+ (Edge/Chrome), macOS Ventura+ (Safari/Chrome), ChromeOS 109+
Browsers: Safari 16+, Chrome 109+, Edge 109+, Firefox 122+

Go live timing and rollout
When will I be required to set up passkey to access my account?
When prompted, you’ll complete passkey setup the next time you log in using the HealthEquity Mobile app, the EZ Receipts Mobile app, or both — depending on your benefits.²
The phased rollout of passkey login began in Fall 2025 and will continue through 2026. You’ll receive an email and see a prompt during login when it’s time to set up your passkey. No action is needed until you’re prompted.
Can I still use a password or one-time code to log in?
No. Once you’ve set up your passkey, passwords and one-time codes will no longer be supported. This helps keep your account more secure and protected from fraud.⁴
Why is a passkey more secure?
Passkeys are harder to phish or steal because they’re tied to your device and require Face ID, fingerprint, or your device PIN to log in.⁴
Access with device limitations
Do I need a smartphone to use a passkey?
Not necessarily. If you don’t use a smartphone, you can also still set up a passkey on a supported desktop, laptop or tablet computer. HealthEquity offers multiple authentication options to ensure accessibility. See our HealthEquity Digital Accessibility Statement. However, managing benefits on mobile is faster and easier than logging in online.⁵
Can I opt out of using a passkey?
No. Once passkey login is enabled for your account, you’ll need to set up and use a passkey to access your benefits — on both mobile and web. Traditional login options like passwords and SMS codes will no longer be available.
What if I use SSO through my organization?
If you use SSO from your organization, a passkey is not required. SSO login does not require passkey, but direct use of HealthEquity’s mobile or web logins does require passkey.
Using and managing passkeys
Can I use my passkey on more than one device?
Yes — if you use tools like iCloud Keychain™ or Google Password Manager™, your passkeys can sync automatically across devices. If not, you can still log in securely by scanning a QR code using a device where your passkey is already saved.
Password Manager Apps
A password manager is a tool that securely stores and organizes your passwords, generates strong and unique ones for each site or service, and automatically fills in your login credentials when accessing websites or apps.

Can I use a third-party authenticator app instead of the HealthEquity mobile apps?
Passkey functionality may be supported through third-party authenticator apps. See below.
Authenticator Apps
An authenticator helps with two-factor authentication by creating codes that change every 30 seconds, adding extra security after your password, and requiring a code to confirm your identity.

How do I remove or disable a passkey?
You can remove or disable a passkey directly through the settings on your device. Because instructions may differ depending on the type of device, we recommend referencing device-specific support resources or searching online for “remove passkey” plus the device model.
Do passkeys expire?
No. Your passkey will remain active until you manually delete it from both your HealthEquity account and your device.
What if my device doesn’t support passkeys?
Most smartphones, tablets, and newer computers support passkeys. If your device doesn’t meet the requirements, you can still create a passkey using a supported desktop, laptop, or tablet. If you're unsure, reach out to Member Services at 844.373.6979 for help.
How is my biometric data protected?
Your Face ID, fingerprint, or PIN never leaves your device. HealthEquity only receives a public key for verification — we never store or access your sensitive biometric data.¹
Support and escalation paths
What if I lose my phone or it’s stolen? Can someone access my account?
Don’t worry — your passkey can’t be used without your Face ID, fingerprint, or device PIN. If your passkey is synced with a cloud account, you can still log in from another connected device. If not, you’ll be prompted to create a new one at login.
What if I changed employers and my passkey stopped working?
If you are with a new employer, you may have a new account. You will need to register your account and set up a new passkey, when prompted.
